Many systems have different ways of handling “Divine” sources of magic. A most common example is having one or more Classes (commonly Cleric or Paladin) that channel the divine to cast their own spells; similar to Arcane or Natural Magic, but with a slightly different flavor.
You might have noticed by now that Ettes Eternal has neither Cleric OR Paladin as Class choices. That’s because we decided to take a different approach to the Divine. We wanted the Divine magics to be exactly how they sound; godly, incredible effects and, just like religion itself, hypothetically accessible to anyone with enough faith and prayer. The gods will bless those who praise them, and provide them with incredible miracles, or… Divine Intervention.
So what if you wanted to play a Cleric? You’re probably feeling a tad disappointed right now, and we understand. The good news is you can make something similar to a Cleric or a Paladin within Ettes Eternal; you just won’t be a Divine Smite-slinging Undead Slayer like you’re used to. Instead, you get to play any other class you want and ALSO be a Cleric! You could be a Fighter championing his Primal Deity’s cause (sounds like a Paladin, right?) or a Rogue with a heart of gold. But why should it be so limited? Barbarians have their own Primal Deities too, why wouldn’t their Gods answer to their pleas? What prevents a Sorcerer from praying to a Goddess of Magic and receiving boons?
Channeling the Divine
So how does this work? Well, in Ettes Eternal, the Divine is available to anyone. In order to open your character to the divine, you must take the Divine Practitioner Perk. This represents your dedication to the Primal Deity of your choice, and opens up the world of Divine Interventions for you.
Although it’s as simple as a single Perk, the prerequisites of the perk (high Religion Skill) means that you need significant Skill investment in order to gain the benefits of this system. Given the power available from these Interventions, this is intended to ensure you never have more than 1, maybe 2 players in a single party that are wielding that power.
With this simple choice, the entire system of Divine Interventions opens up to you:
